Belleville East HS Wins the Gateway Grade Tournament

Yesterday, Gateway Chess organized the Gateway Grade Tournament, hosted by De Smet High School.


Posting their second straight victory, Belleville East HS easily outdistanced the field, scoring 13.5 points out of a possible 16. The battle for second place was close, with Lift For Life Academy prevailing with 10 points. Mt. Vernon HS and Herrin HS tied for third with 9.5 points.


Wydown MS won the 8th and Under Division division, Maplewood-Richmond Hts. ES won the 6th and Under, Glenridge ES won the 5th and Under, and Meramec ES won the 3rd and Under..


Four perfect 4-0 results were achieved, and three players recorded 10,000+ Gateway Grand Prix point totals for the tournament, bringing the total to six for the season. Ayush Prabhat from Ft. Zumwalt West HS currently holds the overall lead by a mere 72 points over 2nd place Sasangka Wahana from Parkway South MS.


155 players participated. There were very few problems with the tournament, and we were able to stay nicely on scehdule throughout.
