The Gateway Board Tournament Registration is Open

When: February 7th

Where: Normandy High School

Cost: $15 if registered online, $20 on-site

This tournament has two tournament formats that are run in parallel.

The High School Division is run as a board tournament. Each high school team places the top four players on boards one through four, with additional players placed on any board at the coach's discretion. Each of the boards is then run as a separate section. Each school's team score is the sum of best score for that team from each board.

Each of the Under Divisions are run as a combined Team and Individual tournament where players compete and are paired as individuals, and the four highest individual scores for a team are added together to form a team score. Players are on the same team if they attend the same school and are entered in the same division.

All teams must have a minimum of two players to be eligible for team awards.

There are six team divisions:

  • High School (grades 9-12) - Board tournament format

  • 9th and Under (grades K-9)

  • 8th and Under (grades K-8)

  • 6th and Under (grades K-6)

  • 5th and Under (grades K-5)

  • 3rd and Under (grades K-3)

The High School division is four sections, one for each board with the time control at 55 minutes plus a 5-second delay. The Under divisions are five sections, one for each division, with the time control at 25 minutes plus a 5-second delay. Under divisions using the same time control may be combined for competitive purposes, but awards will still be per division.

Schools may enter teams in multiple divisions.

This is the seventh Gateway Grand Prix tournament of the 2025-26 Gateway Chess Season.

See the tournament details page for more information.

Online registration will remain open until 7 PM Thursday, February 5th. Saturday walk-in registration on-site will be available.
